MouseTrail — Privacy Policy

MouseTrail plans a walking route around a theme park. It has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking of any kind. Almost everything it does happens on your device.

Location

MouseTrail asks for your location so it can show where you are in the park, measure how far you are from your next stop, and tell you when to start walking. This normally stays entirely on your device.

• While you're using the app. Your position is used to draw you on the map and to time your route. It is not transmitted.
• In the background. If you allow it, MouseTrail keeps following your route while your phone is locked or you're in another app. This is what makes the Lock Screen "next stop" display and the "time to head over" alerts work — without it, the app can only tell you where you should have been. You can refuse this and the rest of the app still works.
• Group sharing (optional, off by default). If you create or join a group, your position is sent to the MouseTrail server so the others in your group can see you on their map. This only happens after you explicitly turn it on, and you can stop at any time.

What the server keeps

The MouseTrail server is a small personal server. It holds the following, and nothing else:

• Group positions — in memory, briefly. A shared position is held in the server's memory and is never written to disk. Individual positions are discarded after 10 minutes, and a whole group disappears after 12 hours without activity. Restarting the server erases all of them immediately. A group is identified only by a random code — there is no name, account, or device identifier attached to it beyond the display name you choose.
• Routes you choose to share. When you tap Share, the plan itself — which park, which rides, in what order, and at what times — is stored so the link you send works when it's opened. It contains nothing identifying, and no location history unless you attach a recorded walk (below). A stored route is deleted after 90 days, after which the link stops working. If you never share a route, nothing is stored.
• A recorded walk, but only if you attach one. If you recorded your walk around a park, the Share sheet asks whether to include it. Saying yes uploads that recording — positions and times, which is location history — so that whoever opens your link can replay it. Sharing without the replay uploads none of it. A recording is reachable only through its own unguessable link, is never listed or browsable, and is deleted after 90 days.
• Park data. Ride lists, opening hours, wait times, and walking paths are fetched and cached so every phone doesn't have to. This is public information about parks, not about you.

Ordinary web server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL) are produced by the web server, as with any website, and are not used to build any profile of you.

Camera

The camera is used for exactly one thing: scanning a MouseTrail QR code so someone can hand you a route or a group without typing a code. Nothing is recorded, stored, or transmitted — the image is examined for a code and discarded.

Health and motion

MouseTrail does not access HealthKit, step counts, or motion data.

Children

MouseTrail is a route planner intended for the adult planning a day out. You can record the people in your group — a name you choose and, if you want, a height — so the app can warn you when someone in your party is too short for a ride, and a list of allergies so it can remind you to ask at a restaurant. This is stored only on your device and is never transmitted anywhere. You can delete any of it at any time.

MouseTrail has no menu or ingredient data and no official ride requirements. What it shows you is what you told it, plus publicly mapped information that may be out of date. Always check with the park or the restaurant.

Where park information comes from

MouseTrail requests data from themeparks.wiki (rides, hours, wait times), OpenStreetMap (walking paths and map tiles), and Open-Meteo (weather). Those requests carry no information about you beyond what any web request necessarily does. MouseTrail is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any theme park or its operator.

Your control

• Deny or revoke location access in iOS Settings — the planner still works.
• Turn group sharing off at any time; your position stops being sent immediately and expires from the server within 10 minutes.
• Delete a saved trail on the home screen to remove it from your device.
• Share a trail without the replay to keep your recorded walk on your device.
• Delete the app to remove everything held on your device.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your device, the date at the top will change and the new version will be published here before it takes effect.
